SWOPA History

December 5, 2009 – Lead by Bill Lloyd, President at the time of The London Camera Club, the first meeting of what was known as the South Western Ontario President’s Meeting was held in London, Ontario. Ninety-five percent of the camera clubs in South Western Ontario responded favourably to an invitation to attend a President’s meeting of Camera Clubs in the area. Thirty people were in attendance at that first meeting. Also in attendance was Bill Demeester, CAPA Ontario Zone Director. Ideas and thoughts were exchanged about how this organization could benefit all camera clubs. The consensus was that an organization be formed and the first meeting of the South Western Ontario Photographers Association was scheduled for the spring of 2010.

The first Executive members were:

  • Secretary Charles Lahman from GRIPS
  • Flickr Administrator Don Martel of the Windsor Photo Guild
